Why Outlook 2010 shuts down unexpectedly

Microsoft Outlook 2010 is a new version of Outlook, which comes with more advance and innovative features compared to earlier outlook versions. However, like previous versions, it is not untouched with the problems of corruption and other outlook problems. One of such problems is the unexpected Microsoft Outlook shutdown problem.

Now-a-days, many of the Outlook users are facing problems in accessing their PST files of Outlook 2010. A huge number of Outlook users have complaint about the problems that the outlook 2010 closes unexpectedly and following message is displayed on the screen:

/–  AppName: Outlook.exe

AppVer: 14.0.4760.1000

ModName: Kernelbase.dll

ModVer: 6.1.7600.16385

Offset: 0003194b  –/

Now the biggest question that arises is why Outlook is denying the access to the personal storage file (PST) and shuts down or closes unexpectedly. It happens  because your Outlook PST is corrupt or damaged and hence it cannot be accessed.

To fix this Microsoft Outlook problem, follow this list of steps below-

Step 1: First close Microsoft Outlook 2010 and open inbuilt utility Inbox Repair Tool from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14. Double click the ‘Scanpst.exe’ file.

Step 2: Enable the checkbox Make backup copy of scanned file before repairing. Now browse and select your Outlook PST file and click Start in the Microsoft Outlook Inbox Repair Tool box.

After repairing Outlook PST file, go to the location where the PST file was stored. You will find three files filename.bak (unrepair, backup copy of the affected PST file), filename.log (log report of the repair information) and filename.pst (repaired PST file).

Now import the repaired Outlook PST file to Outlook 2010 and ensure that this problem has been fixed or not. Find here how to import PST file in outlook 2010.
