How to Setup a Linksys Router for DSL Internet

Your Linksys router facilitates both the Internet connection types viz. DSL and cable to help you browse the Internet, email, stream multimedia content, and share files etc. However you can most of your Linksys router if you set up it with the DSL Internet connection, which offers great non-sharable bandwidth, high-speed, and outstanding performance for both wired and wireless networks. Using the installation disk

If you have an installation disk for your Linksys router, pop it in to your computer’s optical drive and wait for it to play. When detected, the Linksys router Setup Wizard will come up and prompt you to follow the on-screen instructions. The installation wizard will automatically detect what type of connection viz. DSL or cable you are using and prompt you to enter the details accordingly. Do as instructed by the wizard and connect your Linksys router to your computer and the DSL modem. Complete the installation and you are done. Don’t forget to setup your DSL connection, wireless network and/or customize your settings as desired to browse the Internet wirelessly and do a lot more.

Step 1

First connect your Linksys device physically to your DSL modem and the computer using the Ethernet cable. The cable should go in the LAN port of the computer and modem from your Linksys router’s port. Also run the DSL phone line into the Internet port of your Linksys router from the DSL modem. A right setup is the only way to proceed with the DSL Internet setup procedure on the Linksys’ web interface while a wrong setup will not fetch anything except annoyance. If you need help with the setup, refer to your Linksys router setup manual or your DSL modem’s manual.

Step 2

Once all the three devices viz. computer, router, and modem are connected, open your web browser. In the browser address bar, type “” and hit Enter. If it draws a blank page for you, you must try “”. Once the “Connect to” page appears, enter your default username and password for your Linksys device and click OK. You can check your router’s documents for the default username & password details. The username for a Linksys device is usually “admin” and the password is none (it means that the password field is left blank).

Step 3

When logged in to the Linksys router user interface, click the Setup tab> select a type viz. “PPPoE” or “Automatic Configuration DHCP” to setup your DSL Internet connection from the drop-down arrow beside Internet Setup. If you select PPPoE, type the username and password provided by your ISP in the relevant boxes, and select the radio button beside “Keep Alive”. Click Save Settings to save changes. Click the Status tab to check whether your DSL Internet connection is connected or not. If it is disconnected, click the Connect button.

Step 4

If you select Automatic Configuration – DHCP, simply enter the IP address for your Linksys router in the IP Address box beside Router Address and then click Save Settings. If you don’t know the IP address for your router, open Command Prompt and type “ipconfig/release” and hit Enter. Now type “ipconfig/renew” and hit Enter. Note the IP address beside “Default Gateway” (and not IP Address) and enter it into the IP Address box. Click Save Settings. You now have successfully setup your Linksys device with your DSL Internet connection. Start browsing or setting up a wireless network.

Simply run the phone line into your Linksys device from the computer and also connect each other using the Ethernet cable and then start setting up the device with DSL connection. Step 1: Prepare your Linksys router

Step 3: Access Linksys’ Web Interface

Open your web browser and type and hit the Enter key to proceed. Step 4: Customize your router
