There is a possibility that with Microsoft Outlook 2010 installed on your computer, you might have not been able to utilize it to send or receive emails or explore its features completely due to incorrect installation or compatibility issues with another program etc. This might have led you to uninstall Outlook 2010 from your computer for reinstall or replace purposes.
Step 1
As said above, Microsoft Outlook 2010 is a built-in component of the Microsoft Office 2010 suite and thence it will not be seen as a separate program under Programs and Features (Windows 7/Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (Windows XP). To remove Microsoft Outlook 2010, you will need to open up the Microsoft Office suite as discussed in the next step.
Step 2
Navigate to Control Panel from the Start button. In the Control Panel window, double-click Add or Remove Programs. If you are using Microsoft Windows Vista or 7, click the Start button and type ‘programs and features’ in the Start Search menu. Hit the Enter key to continue. If prompted, enter your administrator password and click Continue. You will be in Programs and Features in Control Panel.
Step 3
A list of programs will be populated under Add or Remove Programs or Programs and Features. Look for the Microsoft Office 2010 suite and click the Change button next to it. The Change button in Programs and Features will be listed at the top or will come up once you right-click the Microsoft Office 2010 suite. Click the radio button next to Add or Remove Features and click the Next or Continue button.
Step 4
You will see the list of components included in the Microsoft Office 2010 suite. Uncheck the box beside Outlook and click Next or Continue whichever you see on your screen. Follow rest of the on-screen prompts and finish the uninstallation. Wait while the uninstallation is in progress. When prompted, restart your computer. When the Microsoft Windows operating system loads back fully, click the Start button and point to Search (for Windows XP).
Step 5
If you are using Windows 7 or Vista, you can use the Start Search box on the Start menu to search for the leftover Microsoft Outlook 2010 files. When in the Search utility, type ‘outlook’ in the File name box and select Local Hard Drives (C:\ or D:\) under the Look in box. Click the Search button to start searching for the leftover files. For Windows 7 or Vista, type the same command in the Start Search box and hit the Enter key.
Step 6
You need not particularly select any drive or folder in the Start Search field. Windows 7/Vista can automatically search through all the directories when prompted. When done, look for all the Microsoft Outlook folders and delete them one by one. Continue searching through all the drives (if you are searching them individually) and deleting the Outlook files until the Search utility stops bringing them in the search results.
Step 7
When done, give a search command ‘*.pst’ to search for the Microsoft Outlook PST file(s). Make sure that you type ‘*.pst’ without quotes either in the Start Search field or in the File name box. When done, you will see a list of Microsoft Outlook 2010 PST files including archive, personal folder etc. in search results. First back up these files (copy and paste them to another location in your computer) and then delete them one by one.
Step 8
If you do not back up your PST files, all your Microsoft Outlook date including emails, contacts, calendar entries, attachments etc. will be lost. So do not forget to back up these files before deletion. When done deleting the files, exit all the windows. You must also clean up the Windows registry to make sure that Microsoft Outlook 2010 is completely removed from your computer. Any traces of Microsoft Outlook 2010 entries can cause Outlook reinstallation issues.
Step 9
Since the Windows registry is a critical part of the Microsoft Windows OS, making wrong changes to it can lead to several critical problems in your computer. I would not recommend you to manually interfere with the registry entries. At this point you can either download and install Ccleaner, the free registry cleaner tool from the internet or call up the professional Microsoft Outlook support or Microsoft technical support service.
Step 10
When done cleaning the leftover registry entries of Microsoft Outlook 2010, exit Registry Editor. Restart your computer if required. When done, Microsoft Outlook 2010 will be removed completely from your system. If you want to reinstall Microsoft Outlook 2010, either insert your Microsoft Outlook 2010 setup media in the disk drive or go back to the Add or Remove Programs or Programs and Features window (check steps 2, 3, and 4).
Step 11
With the installation media, you can customize Microsoft Outlook 2010 reinstallation. If you don’t have the disk, go to Programs and Features (or Add or Remove Programs), follow the procedure to reach the list of Microsoft Office components. Recheck the box beside Outlook and follow rest of on-screen instructions. When done, restart your PC. You can also install Microsoft Outlook 2007 also if you do not wish to continue with the 2010 version.
Step 12
In that case Microsoft will keep bothering you to upgrade to the 2010 version. I guess you can bear with that. Microsoft Outlook 2010 is a great feature-packed version, so I would recommend you to stick to it after fixing your Microsoft Outlook problems.
