Running Outlook 2007 SP1? Upgrade to SP2 for Better Performance

If you are running Outlook 2007 SP1 (Service Pack 1), you may need to upgrade it to the latest SP2 version if you want to improve its responsiveness, performance, security, and reliability etc. Microsoft Outlook SP2 is enriched with various enhanced tools and features that help it respond faster, start and shut down quickly, switch faster between folders or items, and store more among other things. The upgrade is a part of the Microsoft Office SP2 version. If you also want to explore features of the latest SP2 version, upgrade to it following the below mentioned steps:
Step 1
First you will have to determine which Service Pack of Outlook you are running. You can do so from the Outlook itself. Open Outlook> click the Help tab> select About Microsoft Office Outlook. On the About Microsoft Office Outlook window, read the first line that will say ‘Microsoft® Office Outlook® 2007 ….SP’. If it says SP2, then you need not upgrade it. But if it says SP1, you know you’ll need an upgrade. Click the OK button to exit this screen.
Step 2
You can look for SP2 updates through Microsoft Outlook and Windows Update also. From Outlook, click the Help tab> select Check for Updates. It will open up a browser window showing update check. Make sure that you are logged on as an administrator to your computer. Otherwise, the updates will not go through. When done, select the updates (SP2) that you want to install.
Step 3
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation of updates. Wait until the updates are being installed. When prompted, restart your computer. Initially when you will run Outlook again after installing updates, you may find it little slow. It will be due to the reprocessing of Outlook files after the upgrade.
Step 4

After the initial file reprocessing, Outlook’s performance will automatically improve. As discussed earlier, you can look for Microsoft Office Outlook SP2 updates from Windows Update also. Click the Start button> All ProgramsWindows Update. Look for the Microsoft Office Outlook SP2 updates and install them. Restart your computer when done.
